Yves quit his job even though he had it all: a big salary, health benefits and a pension plan. He sold his downtown condo, too. Why did he decide to drastically simplify his life? Because he was unhappy and unfulfilled. A couple of years ago, he went on a 10-day silent retreat and, after much soul-searching, realized that his job and his stressful lifestyle needed to go. Now, a year and a half later, he's living a minimalist lifestyle in a small bachelor apartment, riding his bike to work, and working 3 days a week at a grocery store. He has more time to spend with the people he loves, and a lot less stress. Does he regret his downshifting decision? Watch this video to find out! Thanks for watching! Case Study Video 1 of 6- Williams Advanced Engineering uses F1 derived technology to develop energy efficient performance in multiple sectors. Williams Advanced Engineering has collaborated with UK start-up Aerofoil Energy to develop a new aerodynamic device that can significantly reduce the energy consumed by refrigerators in supermarkets and convenience stores. Developing a new retrofit aerofoil system that keeps more of the cool air inside the refrigerator cabinet, this innovative technology will result in significant energy savings. Sainsbury’s, the UK’s second largest supermarket chain, has been testing the product at a number of its stores, with corresponding benefits for their carbon footprint. I was on my way to home from work but my phone rang. That means house duties. I stopped by on my way from work to home at an Aldi Markt (Holstenstraße) and bought some groceries. In the video, I showed how the German supermarkets are, what are the prices that one can expect and the things that you should and shouldn't do while shopping. If you have any questions or anything that you don't understand, write it down in the comments sections (even if you don't have one, feel free to speak your mind!) Greetings from Hamburg! Bill reveals how "queueing theory" - developed by engineers to route phone calls - can be used to find the most efficient arrangement of cashiers and check out lines. He reports on the work of Agner Erlang, a Danish engineer who, at the opening of the 20th century, helped the Copenhagen Telephone Company provide the best level of service at the lowest price.

A supermarket, a large form of the traditional grocery store, is a self-service shop offering a wide variety of food and household products, organized into aisles. It is larger in size and has a wider selection than a traditional grocery store, but is smaller and more limited in the range of merchandise than a hypermarket or big-box market. Campy training film about how to be a good supermarket cashier in the 1960's. The main customer, the red headed woman I believe is character actress Fran Ryan who is best known as the 2nd Mrs. Ziffle on Green Acres and also was in several Hungry Jack commercials and many guest appearances on many television shows. She was also the passenger in Bill Murray's cab at the beginning of the film Stripes. She passed away in 2000 at 83 years old.

Learn More about Bill at: http://discovere.org/our-programs/awards-and-recognition/single-award-detail/Xuanya%20(Bill)%20Zhang Bill Zhang: “An Engineer Improves Supermarket Efficiency” Sometimes they have multiple cashiers, and then that actually you form three different lines – that’s actually less efficient compared to another approach if you form one line and then you go to each cashier as they open up. Because if you form one line you have three different options to go to that’s much more efficient then if you form three different lines.
